Sage has a long history of use in traditional medicinal and spiritual practices. Burning or ‘smudging’ sage has been practised by many native communities in North America for spiritual and medicinal purposes, specifically for cleansing spaces and clearing negative and obstructive energy. Sage also has antimicrobial properties, and has been used internally to this effect, as well as externally, to reduce skin inflammation.
